Build High Self Esteem in Yourself

Build High Self Esteem in Yourself

Every year, awards such as the Grammies and the Oscars are given to actors, directors and producers. They are for films and shows that have entertained the public. One of the people almost always thanked by those receiving the award are their parents.

The reason why parents are usually given gratitude is because of the hard work and values that were bestowed by parents to their child. Many children would grow up with a bad self-image of themselves if it were not for their upbringing by their parents to have good values. Without that would be the makings of low self-esteem for the child starting at a young age. When even your parents think or talk lowly of you it will hinder you in many ways and cause you to have a lower self-image of yourself. Compliments and favorable talk about a person helps to give them high self-esteem.

There are many ways to help build your esteem. Some use self-help tools that are specialized just for that purpose. Others attend counseling sessions. However believe in oneself is something that everyone can do themselves and its something that costs no money. Accenting your strengths and downplaying your weaknesses will go a long way toward building high self-esteem. You can often see this in play when you are good in certain things and above average in others. Often this seems to happen automatically when the things you like turn out to be the very things you excel in. Oftentimes we see people who are severely handicapped in something, but are exceptional in some other thing. The thing which they excel in helps to create higher self-esteem for that individual. An example might be someone who is blind, but is an excellent piano player although they cannot see the keys or read the music under normal conditions.

When you have things happen that bring you down you need to concentrate on other things so your self-esteem stays high. Take your mind off the bad and concentrate on things that are neutral, or preferably positive in nature, and you’ll be well on your way toward high-self esteem. Accomplishing tasks will also help build your self-esteem.

Part of building your self-esteem is taking risks. But when you do you should have it clear in your mind what you will do if the risk you take does not pan out like you expect. By having a clear goal of what you want to happen it seems to increase the chances of succeeding. Its difficult to know if its because of your thoughts that things often seem to work out in your favor, but regardless, you should be prepared and have thought out what you would do if your risk taking turns out unfavorable. That way you will not be devastated should things not work out so well. If you can easily recover from any failures it helps to build your self-esteem and makes things much easier for you to deal with. This is better than waiting to see what happens, then scrambling trying to figure out what to do next.

Positive thinking is another factor in building high self-esteem. Everything in life is a risk but its risk we must take if we are to do anything at all. Try to be optimistic whenever possible and it really seems to increase the chances of success rather than a disappointing outcome.

Having high self-esteem is something that can be imparted to others. Its similar to how it’s given to children by their parents. By having a good attitude others will see you as a role model and will emulate you. This will boost both your self-esteem and the person’s self esteem you help. An easy way of doing this is by treating everyone with respect. It doesn’t matter who they are or what their position seems to be in life. Everyone deserves respect, that is, unless they have done something to cause people to disrespect them.

It’s easy to tell when someone is confident. It may be indefinable but usually in a short period of time being with or around someone you can tell if that person is confident or not. Confident people are not born that way. These individuals are self-made, whether on purpose or it happening unconsciously. One of the qualities of a good leader is being able to speak, but also listen. If you can learn something new from others by listening, then doing, it usually helps to build your self-esteem. High self-esteem is something we should strive for. But it means nothing if we don’t treat people with respect and dignity. After all we are all people and deserve to be treated nicely. That’s qualified, because we all have known of someone who you would not have any respect for due to their unsavory deeds.
